Studentenwerk Dresden performance figures
As a public law institution (German: Anstalt des öffentlichen Rechts), Studentenwerk Dresden has to strike a balance every year. The following performance figures show how the year 2023 looked from a statistical perspective for Studentenwerk Dresden as a company.
At 39,300, the total number of students supported by Studentenwerk Dresden was again lower than in the previous year (2022: 40,500) and below the 40,000 mark for the first time. The number of staff employed by the Studentenwerk also fell to 506 (2022: 526).
Student Dining Services
There was an increase in sales in the university catering division compared to the previous year. Total sales amounted to € 10.75 million in 2023 (2022: € 8.69 million). Of this, € 8.43 million was attributable to the canteens (2022: € 6.63 million) and € 2.32 million to the cafeterias (2022: € 2.06 million).
Student Financing
A total of 9,826 BAföG applications were processed in the Student Financing division in 2022 (2022: 9,607). The number of applications has therefore risen again and the total amount of funding disbursed in 2023 is also significantly higher than in the previous year for the first time at € 60.5 million (2022: € 48.8 million). In 2023, there was also a significant increase in the funding rate of students supported for the first time again to 18.2% (2022: 16.5%).
Student Housing
The Studentenwerk's 40 halls of residence in Dresden, Tharandt, Zittau and Görlitz continued to offer a total of 6,633 places. Rental income of around € 20.8 million was generated in 2023 as a whole (2022: € 18.9 million).
Counseling and Social Affairs
In the area of social counseling, including telephone and email consultations, there was slightly more demand than in the previous year with around 2,169 consultations (2022: 2,122).
At 694, the number of student legal consultations was higher than in the previous year (2022: 633).
The number of contacts at the Psychosocial Counseling Center rose again in 2023 to a total of 7,652 (2022: 6,692).
The number of childcare places available in the daycare facilities of Studentenwerk Dresden remained unchanged at 240.
Student Culture
A total of €52.720 in funding was used in the culture department. Funding was provided to 7 artistic groups and 4 student clubs.
