Climate plate in the canteen (KlimaTeller)

Since November 11, 2024, Studentenwerk Dresden has been labeling climate-friendly dishes in its canteens with the “KlimaTeller” (Climate plate) logo. Thanks to automated CO2 accounting, meals whose CO2 emissions are at least 50% below average are labeled. This allows guests to choose more climate-friendly options.

The aim

The aim of the project is to create a clear orientation for climate-friendly nutrition by introducing the KlimaTeller in the canteens. Guests should be able to select dishes that have a lower CO2 impact in order to contribute to a more conscious and sustainable choice of food.

Time frame

On November 11, 2024, we started labeling the climate plate in the canteens of the Studentenwerk Dresden.

Resources deployed

The data on the CO2 values are determined automatically based on the components of each meal using the Eaternity database.

Description

The menu always includes the corresponding CO2 label for each dish (in addition to the usual information on allergens). This takes into account the CO2 emissions of all ingredients on the plate that are generated during production from the field to the kitchen. A KlimaTeller causes at least 50% less CO2 than comparable, average dishes.
