Corona-Pandemic: BMBF-Überbrückungshilfe for Students

Published on Tuesday, 16.6.2020

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is helping students who are demonstrably in a financial or economic emergency situation owing to the corona pandemic with allowances totalling 100 million euros. They are paid out via the student service organisations – the Studierenden- or Studentenwerk (STW).

The grant can still be applied online up to a maximum of 500 euros per month for August 2020.
Attention: Please do not submit the August application until the July application has been completed!

At the Studentenwerk Dresden, the 800 complete June applications were all processed, 61% were accepted and 39% rejected. The most common reasons for rejection were lack of evidence of an acute pandemic emergency situation within the meaning of the guidelines, documents not submitted despite additional requests or a too high account balance. A total of € 198,200 was paid out for June.

So far, 1,038 applications have been submitted for July, of which 617 are complete and can be processed. Please remember to follow the program's instructions for completion! Most important are complete account statements up to the day before the application is submitted and comprehensible explanations for the pandemic emergency.
