Rent increase in student halls as of December 1st, 2022

Published on Friday, 16.9.2022

The drastic increase in energy costs is putting a heavy burden on Studentenwerk Dresden as the operator of the student residence halls. At the same time, we are aware of our responsibility as landlord of over 6,600 dormitory places in Dresden, Zittau and Görlitz.

Our student residence halls are heated with district heating or gas. District heating is generated by burning gas and light heating oil in various power plants. Due to the geopolitical situation, the prices for our heating resources have risen sharply.

As Studentenwerk, we stand for socially acceptable prices in student housing. However, we have now reached a point where we can no longer compensate for an increase in operating costs with the funds available to us. For this reason, it will be necessary to increase the rent component "flat-rate cost sharing" by €26.99 as of December 1st, 2022. All tenants will receive the rent increase letter in their student residence mailboxes between November 9th and 15th, 2022.

In view of this, we would like to continue to appeal to you to use electricity, water and heating energy carefully so that rents remain as affordable as possible in the future.
