The wait is over – Neue Mensa on Bergstraße will reopen on Tuesday, March 31. Following extensive renovation and modernization, the diverse offerings of Neue Mensa on the TU Dresden campus will once again be available at the start of the summer semester.
The main operations are located on the upper floor, while the ground floor houses additional facilities such as the cafeteria, coffee lounge, and Bierstube. A key new feature is the modern free-flow serving area, which replaces the former conveyor belt system and offers guests more freedom in customizing their meals. The new kitchen is designed to prepare up to 4,200 meals daily, enabling a wide variety of options. Neue Mensa opening hours are similar to those of the other large dining halls: Monday to Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; the cafeteria is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and the café lounge from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
With the reopening of Neue Mensa, Studentenwerk Dresden has created a modern space to meet the needs of current and future students, while simultaneously preserving an important piece of Dresden's university and architectural history. The ground floor of Neue Mensa houses the Bierstube, also run by the Studentenwerk Dresden. It offers a new meeting place in the heart of campus during the afternoon and evening.
