The Federal Education and Training Assistance Act (or BAföG) is the best and simplest way to finance your studies. The study start-up aid is a one-off grant and is used to finance expenses in connection with the start of studies.

  • As an alternative to the online application, interactive PDF forms are available for download or you can use the conventional paper forms, which are available from us at the Office for Financial Aid for Education.
  • Please choose one method (medium) for submitting your documents. Under no circumstances should you use several methods at the same time, not even to submit documents twice for security reasons.
  • Please send us all documents that you send to us by e-mail in PDF format only. This is generally easy to read and can be processed without any problems.
  • In order to reduce the currently longer processing times as much as possible, we ask you to avoid enquiries about the status of processing.

BAföG funding in the school and vocational sector is generally the responsibility of the office in whose district the student's parents live. If the parents live in Dresden, please contact the state capital Dresden.

The Studentenwerk Chemnitz-Zwickau is responsible for processing BAföG applications from students at the Saxony Cooperative State University (formerly Berufsakademie Sachsen).
