We offer advice during our open consultation hours without the need for an appointment. If you are unable to attend during these times, we will be happy to arrange an individual consultation appointment with you.

Support in financial emergencies

The Studentenwerk Dresden offers students who find themselves in financial distress targeted assistance to support them in difficult situations.

Most forms of financial support can only be applied for during a consultation. Please make an appointment with the General Social Counseling Service.

Students who find themselves in temporary social and financial hardship can apply for financial assistance. This assistance is granted from the hardship fund within the limits of available resources and can help to bridge short-term financial difficulties.

For students experiencing financial difficulties, we provide meal vouchers that can be used to obtain free meals in the cafeterias and cafés of the Studentenwerk up to the amount of the credit loaded onto the voucher.

We offer income-based pregnancy assistance to pregnant students with low incomes. This includes financial support of up to €200 and a meal voucher worth €50 for the cafeterias and cafés run by the Studentenwerk Dresden.

Students who are currently completing their studies and find themselves in financial distress can apply for an interest-free loan.

Studying with a disability or chronic illness

The General Social Counseling Service supports students with chronic illnesses or disabilities in organizing their everyday student life. Even before you start your studies, you can find out about your rights and options from us.

The social counselors provide advice on the following topics, among others:

  • Study organization (e.g., semester abroad, part-time studies)
  • Compensation for disadvantages
  • Application for special needs (e.g., integration assistance, care services, additional needs)
  • Application for determination of the degree of disability
  • Health insurance
  • Review of possible entitlement to social benefits

International students

Studentenwerk Dresden's General Social Counseling Service supports international students with social, financial, and legal issues related to their studies. Even before you start your studies, you can find out about your rights and options from us.

The social counselors provide advice on the following topics, among others:

  • Orientation in a new country
  • Financing your studies
  • Insurance
  • Social benefits
  • Questions regarding residence permits
  • Challenges in everyday student life

The Campusbüro Uni mit Kind supports students and employees at universities who have children or wish to have children. The aim of the counseling service is to promote the compatibility of studying or working with family life.

The Campusbüro offers a wide range of counseling and networking opportunities for (expectant) parents.
